It’s time to explore the ship! The first day on board is an excellent time to wander the ship and see all that is available for you. I tend to start at the top of the ship for my tour and stop and perhaps get a cocktail for the walk. This is also a perfect time to start building a rapport with bartenders and bar servers. These hard working folks will be all around the ship, not just at the pool as they also work in the dining rooms, entertainment venues and all other bars and taking time to interact is a great way to receive extra-special service during your cruise.
Scope out the pool area and see how many pools and hot tubs are available to you. Many ships have “adults only” areas with a pool that tend to be a bit quieter than the main pool. These areas also often have more comfortable chairs. Pick out your spot for the sea days to have the location and view picked out and make sure on those days to get to the pool early for your choice of prime locations!
The spa is next up to visit. Most ship spa’s offer a tour on day 1 and many times have a raffle for free services. You cannot win if you don’t enter! This is a great time to book any spa treatments for your cruise before there is limited availability. Spa’s are very busy on sea days and if your cruise has formal nights those tend to fill up quickly as well. Days when your ship is in a port, the spa usually has specials and discounts which are fun to take advantage of.
Head to the main dining room and locate your assigned table for dinner for traditional seating. This is the time if any issues with your table or dining time that there will be a crew member at the host stand that can assist with any questions or issues. This is also a good time to locate the specialty restaurants and take a peek at their menus. If one strikes your fancy, make a reservation to make sure you don’t miss out.
Time to locate all the activities you want to participate/enjoy during your cruises. Find your favorite bar…find where karaoke is held so you can channel your inner rock star…seek out the main theater where all the big production shows are held. There is so much available to do on board, day 1 is the ideal time to plan your cruise activities.
Whether it’s rock climbing or ice skating or a mini-water park ships today have something for everyone! One of the best things about cruising is your vacation can be as tranquil or active as you want it to be.
As the ship leaves port, the ships have sail away parties that are a ton of fun. Music, excitement and your fellow passengers gathering on deck is such a fun activity that I make sure to never miss!
Happy embarkation day to you and I look forward to working with each of you to book your dream cruise so you may become as much of a cruise “addict” as myself and my family are!
